Senator Wagoner welcomes Olivia Brewer to Senate Floor to sing the National Anthem
JUNEAU-Alaska has many talented children and Fridday Senator Wagoner (R-Kenai) welcomed one of them to the Senate Chambers. Olivia Brewer, an 11-year-old from the Kenai Peninsula, sang the National Anthem to open the 39th day of this Legislative Session. To listen to her performance, click here. Raised in Nikiski, Olivia enjoys performing in plays with the Kenai Performers and singing solos in school programs. She sang at the opening ceremony of the Tustumena 200 sled dog race this year in subzero temperatures and she often sings the National Anthem for Soldotna Silver Salmon swim meets. Olivia is a 5th grader at Aurora Borealis Charter School in Kenai and is visiting Juneau to compete in a 2012 Alaska Swimming Age Group Championships hosted by the Glacier Swim Club at the new Dimond Park Aquatic Center.
“We have many talented children throughout the state to be proud of, and I’m especially proud of this young lady from Kenai. It’s a privilege to welcome her to the State Capitol,” Senator Wagoner said.
Olivia has many other interests. Not only does she take voice and piano lessons, she also plays soccer with the Kenai Krushers, is a member of Girl Scout troop #697, and is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys trapping and fishing with her parents, Doug and Kelli Brewer, owner and operators of Alaska West Air.
Her next solo performance will be before the Kenai Peninsula School board on May 7th.
