In what will probably be the most expensive campaign in U.S. history, President Obama has raised $29.1 Million for his war chest in the month of January.
The campaign anounced the numbers as President Obama was touring the West Coast on a three-day trip raising funds. These numbers show Obama well ahead of his Republican rivals in fundraising efforts.
The campaign noted that 98% of the donations to Obama were $250 or less. Obama, again, as he did in 2008, shows his extraordinary ability to tap the network of small donars.
Last week, Obama aides announced that the campaign would publicly back the super-PAC Priorities USA. This is contrary to his earlier disapproval of the use of superPACs. But, aides said that the acceptance was necessary to level the playing field, where Republicans have already began using superPAC monies to barrage the Democrats with negative ad campaigns.
