Around midnight on Sunday morning, a clerk at the Girdwood Tesoro called in to troopers to report that a woman had stolen items from the store then fled.

The clerk related to troopers that the woman had entered a Chevy Suburban and headed south on the Seward Highway.

Following that lead, troopers searched for and located the Suburban and its driver at mile 38 of the Seward Highway one mile to the north of the Sterling Highway cut-off.

When stopped and contacted, the driver of the vehicle would give a false name to troopers. An investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle was 34-year-old Anchorage resident Carissa Vantassel.

Further investigation would find that Vantassel also had an active $10,000 warrant for her arrest relating to a previous theft offense in Anchorage.

When questioned, Vantassel would admit to stealing merchandise from the Tesoro station in Girdwood.

Vantassel was arrested for Driving while License Suspended, Providing False Information, and the $10,000 warrant.

Vantassel was transported to the Seward Jail and her bail was set at $11,000. Charges concerning the items stolen from the Tesoro station were forwarded to Anchorage.
