In less than one hour on Monday morning, two school buses on the South Kenai Peninsula were involved in accidents near Anchor Point and Homer according to the trooper dispatch.
At 7:56 am, troopers received a report of a collision between a Chevy Suburban and a Thomas Built School bus at mile 15,8 of North Fork Road near Anchor Point. According to the dispatch, the rear of the school bus, driven by 72-year-old Marion Horde, slid into the opposing lane of travel on the road and was struck by the Suburban driven by 63-year-old Dona Bennett.
There were no children aboard the bus at the time of the accident. Bennett and Horde both reported wearing their seat belts and there were no injuries reported. Damages are estimated at $3,500.
Then, at 8:50 am, another bus involved accident was reported to troopers, this one occurred at mile 164 of the Sterling Highway. The trooper investigation into that accident revealed that a 16-year-old girl was driving a Ford F-150 south on the highway when she attempted to pass a 2014 Thomas Built school bus driven by 60-year-old Grace Poindexter. As she made her attempt, the girl lost control of the truck and collided with the bus.
Although there were three students aboard the bus at the time of the accident, no injuries were reported.
Damages in that accident were estimated at $9,000.
