Kodiak-Based Troopers Investigate Ouzinkie Crash

Kodiak-based troopers are investigating, and suspect that alcohol was involved, in a Tuesday morning crash in the small community of Ouzinkie that injured one.

The report of the crash that involved a 1993 Mercury Topaz running into a parked 1999 Freight-liner Dump Truck came in to the troopers at 11:02 am on Tuesday. Troopers traveled to the village and conducted an investigation that revealed that 24-year-old Flora Shanagin was traveling at a high rate of speed when she left the roadway and collided with the dump truck which was parked there.

The dump truck suffered very little damage, the Topaz was totaled.

Shanagin, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, was severely injured in the crash. She was medevaced to Kodiak for treatment of her injuries.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into the incident.
