(Juneau) — Recognizing the keen interest Alaskans have in Chinook (king) salmon research being conducted throughout the state, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) has released volume two of Chinook News, a newspaper intended to inform the public of work conducted in 2014 on the Chinook Salmon Research Initiative.

The Winter 2015 edition overviews the stocks and research projects of twelve important Chinook river systems and features articles on marine sampling in the Kodiak and Westward regions, Cook Inlet, and Southeast Alaska. Also included are highlights on initiative-funded environmental and ecological studies performed in collaboration with the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

“We want to ensure that not only are we sharing what we’re learning, but that we’re getting the public fully engaged in the process. As Alaskans, we’re all in this together, and the department remains committed to the long term health and sustainability of our fisheries resources. I invite the public to explore Chinook News, share it with friends and family, and provide feedback to us,” states Sam Cotten, ADF&G commissioner.
