Alaska State Troopers say that there is no further information currently on why one North Pole man shot another early Thursday morning.

Troopers report via the trooper dispatch that they were notified of “a home invasion and a shooting in North Pole” at 12:21 am on Thursday morning.  The caller reported to troopers that they were still in the residence and that one person had been shot.

Troopers and North Pole police immediately responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, they found one man, identified as 34-year-old John “Adam” Chicote suffering from gunshot wounds.

When EMS responded to the scene, they pronounced Chilcote deceased.

Investigators would determine that “Matthew Davis, 41 of North Pole, broke into the residence, ran upstairs and shot Chilcote several times while the complainant hid and called 911” according to the trooper dispatch.

Davis fled the scene in his vehicle after shooting Chilcote, but would show up at the North Pole Police station roughly 25 minutes later. Upon his arrival, he was taken into custody. Davis was arrested and remanded and charged with Murder I.

The State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage was notified and an autopsy will be performed.

Chilcote’s next of kin was notified of his death.

The investigation into Chilcote’s death will continue.
