Sealaska Heritage Institute will sponsor its annual Latseen Hoop Camp in Juneau in August and feature Bob Saviers, a current coach for Juneau’s Hoop Time Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
The Latseen Hoop Camp is a free, innovative program that provides a fun and safe environment for youth to be physically active, develop basketball fundamentals and learn the Tlingit language.
The camp is for students in grades 3-8 and is scheduled 8am-5pm, August 10-13, location to be determined. Students may register online.
Saviers is an AAU/NCAA certified coach, a former coach for Dzantik’I Heeni and Floyd Dryden schools and one of the originators of Hoop Time AAU.
Sealaska Heritage Institute is a private, nonprofit founded in 1980 to promote cultural diversity and cross-cultural understanding. The institute is governed by a Board of Trustees and guided by a Council of Traditional Scholars. Its mission is to perpetuate and enhance Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures of Southeast Alaska.
