U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler announced on Thursday that an Anchorage Grand Jury indicted two Anaktuvuk Pass women were indicted in two separate indictments for multiple counts of Misappropriation of Postal Funds.
Dorothy Gordon of Anaktuvuk Pass was indicted on “23 counts related to theft of deposits from the Anaktuvuk Pass Post Office, as well as theft of cash on delivery (COD) funds,” U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder revealed. Gordon is charged with stealing over $70,000.
In a separate indictment, Bernice Hart was charged with 45 counts of theft of deposits, COD funds, and theft of money orders. She is charged with stealing over $40,000.
Both women worked as postmasters at the post office there in 2012 and 2013. Gordon resigned in August of 2013 and the post office put Hart on off-duty status in September of the same year.
Misappropriation of Postal Funds carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment, or a fine of $250,000, or both.
