The trooper dispatch reported on Tuesday that Fairbanks-based troopers were involved with the shooting and wounding of a motorist on Tuesday morning.
The troopers reveal that Fairbanks Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after it was observed that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the morning.
When troopers stopped the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Davis Road and Wilber Street, they found that the driver of the vehicle was armed.
Additional troopers and Fairbanks Police responded to the scene and negotiations were initiated without success. Bean bags were also deployed without positive results.
A short time later, multiple troopers opened fire on the suspect, who they have yet to identify. The man was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital suffering from potentially fatal wounds.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into the incident. The man’s identity will not be revealed until his next of kin have been properly notified.
