The trooper dispatch reported on Tuesday that after a week-long trial, defendant, 52-year-old Anthony Gilliam, was found guilty on 22 counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and three counts of Coercion by a jury in the Palmer Court House.

The case began in November of 2013, when a then 23-year-old female and her 22-year-old sister came forward and reported that Gilliam, their step father, had been abusing them for a period beginning in 2003 and ending in 2009. They reported to investigators that Gilliam had started abusing them in Alaska and continued to do so after moving to Idaho.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation and the Mat-Su Child Abuse Investigation Unit “initiated an investigation into the incidents,” the trooper dispatch revealed. The Ashton Police Department in Idaho, and the Freemont County Sheriff’s Office later assisted ABI Investigators with interviews, as well as assisting with search warrants served on Gilliam and his residence.

As the investigation neared completion, the Palmer Superior Court issued an arrest warrant on Gilliam for the 25 counts. Gilliam was arrested in Idaho and extradited back to Alaska, where he was jailed and his bail set at $500,000 on May 16th, 2014.

As a result of the Monday verdict of Guilty on all counts, Gilliam’s sentencing is scheduled for January 29th, 2016 in Palmer Court.
