The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced the first commercial salmon opening on Kodiak Island for the 2016 Salmon season on Tuesday.
The season will open on June 2nd, about a week earlier than usual. The opening will be for 57 hours in the Northwest Kodiak District and the Southeast Afognak District. Fish and Game announced openings in other areas in the Kodiak Island District that will remain open until further notice however.
ADF&G remind fishermen that Chinook (King) Salmon 28 inches and greater cannot be retained and must be released unharmed.
