JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — Airmen with the Alaska Air National Guard’s 176th Wing rescued a hunter Sunday night who needed medical attention.

The hunter and his hunting partner were hunting on all-terrain vehicles, in the area about 25 miles north of Eureka Roadhouse and 125 miles northeast of Anchorage. The man was unable to breathe well and they made an emergency call for assistance.

The Alaska State Troopers contacted the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, who then requested support from the Air Guard stationed here. An HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter from the 210th Rescue Squadron and two pararescuemen from the 212th Rescue Squadron departed around 11 p.m., flew to the area where the hunters were waiting, landed on a road near them, and transported them to Matsu-Regional Medical Center.

The man who was in need of medical assistance had a restricted or blocked airway, couldn’t swallow and was dehydrated. The pararescuemen administered intravenous fluids and steroids to help with his airway and delivered both men to the hospital at around 1 a.m. this morning.

For this mission, the 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons were awarded with one save.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
