HOLY CROSS-Shortly before midnight on Thursday, the Village Public Safety Officer in Holy Cross received a call from a Holy Cross woman claiming that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, 36-year-old Darren Peters Sr. also of Holy Cross.
The VPSO responded to the call and found the woman had been beaten and cut twice with a knife. She was transported to the local clinic and treated for her injuries.
Alaska State Troopers responded to Holy Cross at 9:30 am Friday. Their investigations revealed that Peters had repeatedly punched the victim, after which he attacked her with a large knife at their residence. The victim stated to troopers that Peters, as he was cutting her, said that he was going to kill her. According to troopers, the victim, at one point, attempted to escape through the bathroom window, but was unsuccessful. Later as Peters back was turned, she was able to flee to a nearby residence to seek refuge. Investigates found that both individuals were intoxicated at the time.
The Alaska State Troopers searched the community extensively looking for Peters. He was eventually found and apprehended at a residence on the outskirts of town. He was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder I and Assault IV-DV.
Peters was transported to Bethel and remanded to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center where he is being held without bail.
