A stand-off between an Anchorage man and Anchorage’s SWAT team ended without injuries seven hours after it began on Tuesday morning, APD reported.

Police responded to the 12200-block of Brookwood Circle in South Anchorage at 10:36 am on Tuesday after receiving a report of shots-fired at that location. When they arrived, their preliminary investigation would reveal that 49-year-old Loren C Jines, while drinking,  had discharged a shotgun into the ground outside of his home before going back into his home.

Jines would after, make calls to family members threatening to commit suicide. Patrol officers were able to make verbal contact with Jines, but were unable to talk him out of the house and SWAT was called in. Upon SWAT arrival streets off of Gregory, north of Huffman were closed to traffic. SWAT also advised persons in the nearby area with respiratory illnesses to stay inside with windows and doors closed as the deployment of gas may be necessary.

The day wore on and the stand-off continued throughout the afternoon, then at 5:42 pm, Jines exited the home and gave himself up to APD. Once the home was cleared and SWAT secured their equipment the roadways were re-opened to traffic. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Jines was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons IV for being in possession while intoxicated and for firing a weapon with reckless disregard.

He was transported to the Anchorage Jail and remanded on the charges.
