Alaska State troopers received a call of an assault taking place at a residence in Fairbanks.

Troopers responded to that call at shortly after 7pm on Sunday evening. Their investigation of the incident resulted in the two participants being separated. The investigation, at that point concluded and troopers left the scene.

Approximately 45 minutes later, one of the participants of the asssault, Nicholas Gustafson, age 31, used a rope to attempt to commit suicide by hanging.

Gustafson was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
