Mitt Romney tightened his grip tighter on the nomination for the 2012 Presidential calendar today with wins in both Michigan and Arizona.
Taking both elections today, Romney has solidified his claim to be the frontrunner in the Republican race for the presidency.
With 974 of the 2,181 precincts in Arizona reporting, Romney has a distinct lead with 48% of the vote to Santorum’s 25%. The race is tighter in MIchigan, with Romney garnering 41% to Santorum’s 37%. Of 5,233 precincts in Michigan, 3,924 have reported in.
Both states have about the same number of delegates. But, Michigan gives the second place winner delegates as well. Romney won two of the delegates by popular vote today, but the remainder will be doled out according to Precinct wins.
This victory places Romney in the driver’s seat as the primaries race towards Super Tuesday on March 6th, where eleven states will go to the polls.
