At 6 pm Saturday, Troopers aboard the Patrol vessel Woldstad overheard a Mayday call on the marine radio from the 32.5 foot pleasure craft Karaway reporting that the vessel was on fire.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Kodiak and Seward responded to assist the Woldstad.
Three Anchorage residents, 42-year-old Kenton Braun, 58-year-old Kathleen Braun, and 17-year-old Kieran Braun, were taken aboard the patrol vessel.
After an investigation into the fire aboard the vessel, it was determined that one of the engines, the starboard engine, had broke a drive bolt causing the engine to overheat and fill the cabin with steam and smoke.
The cabin was aired out, the three passengers were allowed back aboard their vessel and they made their way back to Seward under their own power using the port engine.
