Even though the American public has been sure who the GOP candidate for President in the 2012 race was going to be for quite some time now, the Texas Primary was a big haul for Mitt Romney.
This primary hasn’t been all Romney however. In the early days of the race, Romney’s contenders all got a shot at the lead for a time. Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and even Donald Trump got to sit atop the heap for a short time and flirt with the GOP voters. But, the voting public soon tired of these also rans and they were set aside one by one until Romney stood alone as the major contender to the GOP crown.
Romney pulled in just shy of 70% of the vote in Texas today to gather the needed delegates to put him over the top to cinch the nomination. He took at least 88 delegates from the Lone Star State.
History was made as Romney gathered the needed delegates for the nomination, he has become the first Mormon to ever cinch the nomination of a major political party. Even though he has the delegates on hand, the official nomination won’t come until August in Tampa during the GOP National Convention.

Romney took a slam from the other side of the political aisle today even as he went over the top on the delegate count. Romney spent time today at a political fundraiser with Donald Trump in Las Vegas, as Trump continued to question President Obama’s birthplace.
Trump spoke to CNBC about Obama’s status as a born American saying, “Nothing has changed my mind, he went on to add, “There are some major questions here and the press doesn’t want to cover it.”
Stephanie Cutter, Obama’s deputy campaign manager, fired back saying, “If Mitt Romney lacks the backbone to stand up to a charlatan like Donald Trump because he’s so concerned about lining his campaign’s pockets, what does that say about the kind of president he would be?”
Poll aggregates show that the lead that President Obama formerly sported is slowly narrowing as the numbers continue to draw together.
