A decision on the controversial Health Care Law was expected to be handed down as early as today from the Supreme Court. But, it was later announced that the decision on the constitutionality of the law will be released on Thursday.
The sweeping Health Care law, championed by President Obama, and decided by the Supreme Court will have an immediate and long-term impact on all Americans.
At the core of the controversy over the law is the “individual mandate” that would require every U.S. citizen to have health insurance or be subject to a fine. It is that portion of the Health Care law that a majority of Americans are against. A recent poll done by Reuter-Ipsos shows that 61% of those polled are against the mandate, while 39% favored it. Supporters of the mandate say that it is that portion of the Affordable Healthcare Act that makes the Health Care Law work.

But, while many are against the mandate, other portions of the healthcare plan enjoy a large majority of support. 82% of the people polled in that poll favor the banning of insurance companies from denying insurance to individuals that have pre-existing conditions. 61% favor children staying on a parent’s insurance plan until age 26, and 72% feel that companies that have over 50 employees should be required to provide insurance for their employees.
Obama has said that he fashioned the Health Care Law after the one drawn up by the state of Massachusetts and signed into law by presidential candidate Mitt Romney when he was governor of that state. But, Romney has promised to repeal the Health Care Law if he defeats President Obama and is elected to the presidency.
