Early Monday morning according to trooper reports, a vehicle flipped and caught fire in Wasilla.

Alaska State Troopers and the Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle roll-over at Acorn Street and Shenandoah Drive at 12:05 am this morning.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle on fire with the driver trapped in the vehicle.

The officers and Central Fire Responders were able to extinguish the fire and free the driver, identified as 65-year-old William R. Rogers from the over-turned 2005 Saturn Vue. He was transported to the Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation at the scene determined that Rogers was traveling at a high rate of speed south-bound on Acorn Street and failed to negotiate the curve just before Shenandoah Drive.

As the vehicle began to leave the roadway and into the ditch, the vehicle struck an up-raised driveway entrance. The impact caused the Saturn to flip, landing on its side. The vehicle ignited.

The investigation over the incident is continuing. Authorities believe that speed as well as alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
