A hunting guide reported an airplane crash on Sunday at Tikchik Lake to the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham.

The guide reported that he and a hunter that was with him observed a small aircraft attempting to land on the lake, 63 miles north of Dillingham, when it flipped over and sank at 5:15 pm Sunday evening.
The guide and his hunter watched the plane as it sank beneath the surfgace and reported that no one exited the aircraft. The two continued to watch the area and never saw anyone in the water.
Troopers were unable to fly to the lake on Sunday because of the on-coming darkness and fog that had moved into the area. Attempts to access the area on Monday were hampered by poor weather conditions.
Alaska State Troopers have preliminary information on the aircrtaft and the pilot but are not releasing any information on the identity of the pilot or aircraft until they are able to make it to the site and conduct an investigation.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Saftey Board have been notified of the crash.
