After the police began circulating surveillance pictures of a man that had robbed a clerk at the Color Me Tan tanning salon in October, a tip came in that helped authorities capture and arrest the man responsible for the crime.
45-year-old Brandon Collins Jr was arrested in South Anchorage on Tuesday afternoon for the robbery in East Anchorage.
Collins is charged with the Class B Felony of Robbery II-Use of Force to Prevent Resistance because he threw the clerk to the floor duirng the incident. Collins had initially asked for a tour of the salon’s facilities, and waited until the lone customer at the establishment left before ordering the clerk to open the register. When told that the register was locked, Collins then rifled the woman’s purse for $50 in cash.
Collins was charged, convicted and jailed in a similar incident in the early 90s.
In June of 1990 Collins sexually assaulted a woman that was working alone in a downtown office. Initially, during that incident, he came in asking to use a phone. He also rifled that woman’s purse. That time for $10.
He was convicted after a guilty plea for that crime in March of 1991. The particulars of that case are not readily available because the court records have been converted since that date.
In this recent case, Collins is being held on a $5,000 c/c plus a $2,500 cash performace bond and a Court Approved Third Party.
