On November 19, 2012 at approximately 9:05 PM the Ketchikan Police Department received a report of a single vehicle accident in the 1500 block of South Tongass
Highway.
The vehicle appeared to be travelling south when it left the roadway and struck the rock embankment on the inland side of the road.
Two people in the vehicle were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers were transported by ambulance to the Ketchikan General Hospital.

The deceased were April Arland, 31 years of age and a 16 year old female. The passengers were a 16 year old female and a 14 year old male.
The deceased will be transported to the Alaska Medical Examiner’s Officer in Anchorage for autopsy. The accident is still under investigation, but speed is considered a factor. Alaska State Troopers assisted in mapping the scene and the Ketchikan Fire Department provided lighting for the scene using their rescue unit.
The road was reopened at approximately 1:30 AM.
