After an investigation begun last July 23 of 2012, when a report came into the Alaska State Troopers of a Sitka Black-tailed deer caught in a snare near South Point Higgins Road in Ketchikan, the investigation concluded with charges being filed on February 12th.
The investigation, that was prompted by a report of a snared deer, located nine set snares in two locations. It also found that the snares were set approximately two years earlier by 21-year-old Ketchikan resident Gregory M. Johnson.
Johnson was cited for Trapping Wolves During a Closed Season, Unlawfully Taking a Sitka Black-Tailed Deer with a Snare, and Failing to Salvage the Edible Meat of a Sitka Black-Tailed Deer on Tuesday.
Johnson is due to appear for arraignment on February 21.
