The 267-foot Sea Freeze Alaska, a catcher-processor owned by Sea Freeze Alaska LLP (formerly U.S. Seafood, Seattle) called the Coast Guard at 2:50 pm Sunday afternoon requesting the transport of one of their crew that was suffering from abdominal distress.
The 47-year-old fisherman was lifted by a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter that was deployed on the Coast Guard Cutter Munro and flown to Cold Bay after the duty flight sureon was consulted and recommended medevac. Guardian Services met the helicopter at Cold Bay and further transported the patient to Anchorage for advanced care.
Chief Petty Officer Jenell Webster from the 17th district credited the speedy recovery of the fisherman from the vessel to resources being in close proximity to the vessel with the stricken man, saying, “Having hoist capable aircraft aboard our Coast Guard cutters patrolling near the fleet greatly decreases the response time in cases such as this.”
