According to the investigators who were gleaning information from the recovering surviving brother who is a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, the two had planned to continue their mayhem in New York.
At a press conference on Thursday, New York’s Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly, told reporters, that the bombing duo had decided to travel to New York in the aftermath of their bombing of the Boston Marathon to party, but then changed their mind and decided to travel to Times Square to carry out more attacks.

The two brothers had planned on detonating one more pressure cooker bomb as well as five pipe bombs that they had constructed and had in their possession.
To carry out their planned attack, the Tsarnaev brothers hijacked an SUV with which to travel to the Big Apple with.
The Tsarnaev’s plan began to unravel when they found that their purloined vehicle was almost out of gas. They decided to stop for gas and it was then that the owner of the vehicle, who was hijacked along with the car, made good his escape and called authorities.
At the news conference, Commissioner Kelly related, “Last evening, we learned through the Joint Terrorism Task Force that the Boston Marathon bombers had planned to travel to Manhattan to detonate their remaining bombs in Times Square.”
Kelly went on to state, “Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the terror suspect who was captured alive, initially told investigators that he and his brother decided after the Boston bombings that they would go to New York City to party. However, a subsequent questioning of Dzhokhar revealed that he and his brother decided spontaneously on Times Square as a target.”
Whether they would have succeeded in their attack with the increased level of awareness after the Boston bombings will never be known. But, with the increased surveillance and their faces already known to authorities, it is likely that they would have been thwarted before they were able to carry out their attack.
