Two hunters reported overdue from a hunting trip on Kalgin Island near Kenai on Thursday morning were located by a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter later in the day according to a Coast Guard press release.
The two men in a 21-foot skiff were reported as overdue by a family member on Thursday morning. The men were due back home on Wednesday night.
After being notified of the overdue boaters, the watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Anchorage issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of the Jayhawk from Airstation Kodiak.
“Approximately two hours into the search the Jayhawk crew located the hunters in good condition and in no distress,” said Steve Garcia, a search and rescue controller with the Sector Anchorage command center. “It’s good news that there was no emergency and these guys did the right thing by leaving word with family about their trip intentions. We recommend when plans change people update family or friends.”
