Early Wednesday morning at 6:11 AM, a 911 call was made to the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center, the caller reported that he had a prowler at gunpoint.
When the Alaska State troopers and Soldotna Police Department responded to the Mackey Lake area residence where the call originated from, they found the homeowner outside of his residence still on the phone with the 911 dispatcher. the homeowner, armed with a pistol, was detaining the suspect, 47-year-old Anchorage resident Warren W. Hamilton, who was on the roof of the residence.
With the troopers and police present, the homeowner provided a ladder to Hamilton so that he could come down off of the roof.
The officers would find that Hamilton had an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of Anchorage for failure to appear on a prior theft case. Hamilton was arrested on that warrant.
The investigation at the scene found that Hamilton drove to the residence in a vehicle that was reported stolen to the Anchorage Police Department. Once at the residence, Hamilton gained partial entry into the home through a mudroom door. Finding the interior door locked, Hamilton then tried to gain access into the residence through the second story windows. It was then that the homeowner, realizing that something was amiss, came out of his home armed with a pistol and detained Hamilton until authorities arrived at the scene.
Investigation into additional charges against Hamilton are ongoing. He was transported to Wildwood pretrial facility where he was remanded.
