St Marys state troopers have responded to a fatal boating accident approximately 10 miles downriver from the community of Alakanuk in an effort to investigate the cause and circumstances that led to the death of at least two.
Alaska State Troopers received the report pertaining to the incident a little after noon on Tuesday. The caller reported that one body had been found on the banks of the Yukon River and boaters had located the body of another floating in the river.
Both bodies were clad in life jackets at the time of their retrieval.
As the investigation into the incident progressed, it was found that another person was unaccounted for in the boating accident. The search continues for that third person.
Once the remains of the boating victims have been positively identified, and family has been notified, the names of the victims will be released, according to trooper dispatch.
