Immediately after receiving a call reporting screaming coming from a residence on Keeney Road, a trooper was dispatched to the scene at 11:46 pm. The responding trooper reported what sounded like a weapon being loaded and then several gunshots.
Reacting to the trooper’s report of gunshots, additional troopers from North Pole and police officers from Fairbanks traveled to the location. The Alaska State Trooper Northern Special Emergency Reaction Team(NSERT) was also activated and sent to the scene.
Gunshots would continue to be heard at the scene after additional officers arrived at the scene.Troopers worked to contact the suspect in the house and soon had made phone contact with 28-year-old North Pole resident Ryan James Sparks.
It was also determined that Sparks was on probation for a previous conviction. Troopers and and officer with Adult Probation, after establishing contact with Sparks, convinced him to give himself up to NSERT members. He complied, and at 2:57 am, Sparks was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
Sparks was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded on charges of Assault III, Misconduct Involving Weapons III, and Probation Violation.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
