Earlier this month, on November 10th, at approximately 4:30 pm, Alaska Wildlife Troopers prepared for a night-time patrol in Hoonah looking for spot-light hunting violations and netted two Hoonah residents in their nocturnal sweep.
It did not take long to find two violators, at 6:05 pm, Wildlife troopers encountered 46-year-old Patrick Glover and 37-year-old Charlie Wright, both of Hoonah, using an artificial light to shoot a deer.
After issuing citations for mandatory court appearances to the two men, the rifle was seized as evidence. Wright was issued a citation for taking a deer using artifical light, and Glover was issued a citation for illuminating a deer with artificial light. Their court appearrances were set for 10 am Monday, November 25th.
Both men pled guilty to the charges on Monday. Wright was sentenced to a class A Misdemeanor and fined $2,000 with $1,000 suspended and given the option to buy back his rifle for $450. Glover was also sentenced to a class A Misdemeanor and fined $1,000 with $500 suspended. Both men were placed on one-year probation with conditions not to commit any fish and wildlife violations During that one year period, neither man can hunt, aid other hunters, or accompany other hunters into the field for a period of one year.
