A snow machine traveler heading to Stony River from Lime Village suffered an accident on the trail on Monday and suffered injuries to his head but was able to make it to safety despite his injuries.
A 35-year-old resident of Lime Village was on his way to Stony River when his black Legend Skidoo broke through the shelf ice on the river. As a result, one of the skis got caught on the shelf ice and the man’s snow machine flipped.
When the machine flipped, the rider hit the ice headfirst, causing injuries to his head.
Despite his injuries, the rider was able to re-start his machine and continue traveling to the Stony River Lodge without losing consciousness.
When he arrived at the lodge between 1:30 and 2 pm, personnel there administered emergency medical assistance.
The Alaska State Troopers in Aniak were notified of the incident at 3:21 pm. The Rescue Coordination Center in Anchorage was contacted and informed of the injuries to the rider and they arrived on-scene at 7 pm. After stabilizing the victim, he was transported to Anchorage for further medical treatment.
