OK, this will be short. Really. I’ve spent the week writing a detailed document on how the oil giveaway passed last year requires nothing from oil companies in return for their billions in Alaska tax breaks.
Giving away billions without requiring anything in return is a fool’s game. And it’s killing our schools.
That revenue loss is causing the governor and legislature to build a budget that has cut over 600 educators the past three years, and threatens more cuts next year. The oil tax analysis is linked here.
And for kicks, here’s a link to a legislative spoof by the fun folks at Alaska Robotics – not my finest moment as an actor. Well, it’s my only moment as an actor. I tried.
Also, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is looking for volunteers to make a positive difference in children’s lives. This important program trains volunteers just like you to become advocates for abused and neglected children in court. Information on the upcoming training sessions in Anchorage can be found HERE. For information on CASA trainings in other communities, contact our office or go to the CASA facebook page.
As always, call if you need help, or have any questions.
My Best,
Les Gara
