As the world awaits the historic transit of Venus across the face of the sun, an occurrence that will not happen again until 2117, weather in the best viewing location isn't cooperating.

Alaska and the mid-Pacific offer the best viewing locations for viewing the event, but weather conditions in the majority of the state will not be conducive for watching the event that begins at 2:09 pm Alaska Time.

During the nearly 7 hour transit of the sun, most of the interior of Alaska will have the view hidden by storm clouds. Although viewing in the Southcentral region of the state may be better, the event may only be viewable intemittently.

If the chance to view Venus’s transit does become available, as is always advisable, when viewing the sun, use proper eye protection to shield your eyes from possible injury. At the very least #14 welders glass is recommended.
