Alaska went to the polls yesterday to vote on many issues. Both in the Alaskan arena as well as on the national stage.
220,745 votes were cast yesterday in the election for the president of the United States. Alaska voted 120,329 times for the challenger for the seat, while only giving President Obama 90,743 votes. This gave Romney 54.51% of the Alaskan vote. These results include only 98.6% of the precincts reporting. Alaska bucked the national trend with their vote, and is the only west coast state to support Romney during this election cycle.
President Obama retained his seat for another four years.
Once again, Alaskans sent Representative Don Young back to Washington. Alaskans handed Rep. Young his 21st victory. Young received an overwhelming 64.52% of the state’s vote. Sharon Cissna, Young’s challenger received only 28.31%. Yet 28% is not a bad showing considering the well-entrenched giant she went up against with such a poorly funded campaign.
Alaskans also voted on the retention of judges in the state. Every judge on the list got a go from the voters.

As expected, the state’s voters went to the ballot boxes yesterday and voted against a constitutional convention. That issue will be tucked away for another ten years when it comes up after the next government census.
Funding for transportation projects statewide got the greenlight from the voting public in yesterday’s casting of the ballot. $453 million was approved for bonds for transportation projects all over the state.
Alaskans also gave control of the state senate to the Republicans, rounding out the state government fully in Repubican hands.
