Project Description: With a grant from the U.S. Coast Guard Spouses' Association of Kodiak, the Alutiiq Museum will host a summer program linking Alutiiq artists, community members, and visitors. Three Native artists will be selected to demonstrate their craft in the museum's gallery for a day this summer-one artist per month in June, July, and August.
The artists will meet visitors, show their work, and sell items directly to museum patrons. After their demonstration, each artist will lead an hour of hands on activities for the community, Total event time will be from 2-4 hours and each artist will receive a $50 stipend. The museum will provide funds for activity supplies. Public Outreach Coordinator Danielle Ringer and Museum Store Manager Marya Halvorsen will lead the project.
Application Process: Send the following materials to the museum in care of Danielle ringer, 215 Mission Road, Suite 101, Kodiak, AK 99615, or danielle@alutiiqmuseum.org, or drop them off at the museum.
- A letter of interest describing what kind of art demonstration you’d like to lead, the hands on activity to follow, and the materials involved in the activity.
- Which date you’d be available for: June 9, July 14, August 11.
- Approximate length of demonstration and activity.
- Contact information for one reference.
Materials must be RECEIVED BY THE ALUTIIQ MUSEUM no later than 5:00 pm, Friday, May 25, 2012.
