Anchorage Inmate Faces Murder I Charges after Death of Cellmate

jailfightA man, incarcerated at the Anchorage Correctional Center-East is facing charges of Murder I in connection with the death of another inmate housed at the facility.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation-Major Crimes Unit in Anchorage was informed at 1:31 on Friday that an inmate there, identified as 53-year-old Mark Canul, was found unresponsive in his cell after being assaulted by another inmate, identified as 20-year-old James Clinton. It is alleged that the assault took place in the cell shared by the two inmates.

Despite CPR efforts by correctional staff, Canul was pronounced deceased after his arrival at a local hospital.

Clinton, who was incarcerated on misdemeanor charges on December 7th, now faces charges of Felony Murder I.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
