James Clinton, the inmate at Anchorage Correctional Center-East, who stands accused of the brutal assault that led to the death of fellow cellmate 53-year-old Mark Canul, was indicted on one count of Murder I and two counts of Murder II by a Grand Jury that convened on December 18th.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation-Major Crimes Unit in Anchorage was made aware of the incident on December 11th as CPR was being performed on Canul. The correctional center reported that Canul “had been found unresponsive inside a cell by a Correctional Officer during a routine security check.” Canul was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
It was revealed in the investigation that the beating by 20-year-old Clinton contributed to the death of the 53-year-old man.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
