It was reported on Friday by the U.S. Attorneys office in Anchorage that Anchorage man Gus Brant Doulgerakis was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Burgess for Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin and Cocaine and Weapons Possession.
36-year-old Doulgerakis was sentenced to 105 months in prison, three months shy of 9 years, for possession of 17 separate firearms as well as other weapons and multiple items of drug paraphernalia, including scales, thousands of dollars in cash, a money counter, and multiple cellular telephones. He is a felon and was barred from possessing weapons of any sort by law.
Doulgerakis was indicted in mid-December on the charges that could have led to a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. That indictment followed the the arrest of Doulgerakis on 28 drug and weapons charges that were later dismissed by the state in January.
During sentencing Judge Burgess emphasized the seriousness of his offences and pointed out that Doulgerakis was “engaged in an extremely dangerous illegal activity.”
In addition to his 105 month sentence, Doulgerakis must participate in a five-year term of supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Courter related that Doulgerakis’s home was “replete with items related to the movie Scarface, a film that glorifies drug trafficking and the use of violence in support of that drug trafficking.”
The investigation that led to the indictment was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as the Anchorage Police Department.
