Anchorage Police Arrest Suspect in Thursday Night Spenard Shooting

image08-10-2014 11.12.21Anchorage police report that they have arrested a suspect that they believe was involved in the shooting of another on 37th Avenue and Wyoming Drive at just after 8:30 pm on Thursday night.

Police investigated reports of several shots fired by citizens in the area. When they arrived on the scene, they found an Anchorage man with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and police report that he is expected to survive his injuries.

The victim told police that he had asked the man, identified as 21-year-old Cody Randall Hess to leave the area during an argument and Hess produced a handgun and shot multiple times at the victim. Police said in a statement that the two men did not know each other prior to the incident.

A K9 unit was brought in, and police searched for the man in the area before locating a man fitting the description of the suspect near 34th Avenue and Lois Drive.
