Anchorage police reported on Tuesday morning that they have opened a death investigation after the discovery of the body of a woman in the woods in the area of Goldenview and Bulgaria Drives on Saturday mid-morning.
It was at about 10:15 AM on Saturday that “a passerby flagged down an officer in that neighborhood stating that they believed they saw the body of a woman in the woods,” the Anchorage Police Department reported on their site.
Following the citizen’s report, an APD Crime Scene van responded to the scene and began an investigation into the woman’s death. Police say that the woman has been identified as 45-year-old Darlene Kunayak, and also report that her next of kin has been notified.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body and are conducting an autopsy today to determine Kunayak’s exact cause of death.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area, or has surveillance footage of road traffic in the area on May 6 and 7th, to please contact Detective Estes at the Anchorage Police Department by calling 786-8572.
APD reported that additional information will be released as it becomes available after autopsy.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
