The Anchorage Police Department have identified the man who was found dead floating face down in ship Creek near downtown Anchorage early Tuesday.
They have identified the body as that of 35-year-old Jack H Harshfield of Anchorage.

The department had previously declined to identify the man, even though they were fairly certain who he was and had possession of identifying documents that were found on the body. The police waited until they were 100% certain of his identity, before notifying his next of kin, and divulging his name to the public.
Harshfield’s body was found just above the Ship Creek dam just prior to 7 AM on Tuesday.
It is not immediately clear to the police department why Harshfield was at that location as he didn’t appear to have been engaged in fishing, nor did he appear to be homeless.
The police report that no indication has been found that Harshfield met his end through foul play, but the Alaska State Medical Examiner has yet to make a determination as to his cause of death.
