According to reports, a 40-year-old Anchorage woman attempted to drown her seven-month-old baby in the bathtub Sunday morning.
After making two attempts to drown her infant and failing, 40-year-old Crystal Hawkins placed a call to 911 and reported to police that she had just tried to kill her child.
This is the second time this week that police have been notified of an incident with the mother and child. On Friday, Hawkins locked her cousin out of her house while visiting her in Mountainview. After locking out her cousin, Hawkins escaped the apartment through a window, leaving the child inside. Hawkin’s mother took custody of the baby after that incident. Sometime during the time since then, Hawkins to repossession of the baby. Hawkins lives with her mother and husband at her mother’s home.
Hawkins attempted to carry out her plan to kill her baby after her mother left for church on Sunday. Her husband, who was unaware of the events taking place upstairs, was downstairs playing video games. He took possession of the child after becoming aware of the situation after Hawkins informed him what she had been doing. He kept custody until police arrived at the scene.

When asked by police why she wanted to kill her young child, Hawkins told police that she wanted her family to hurt as much as she did, according to reports.
When interviewed by police, Hawkin’s husband said that she committed the crime for attention. Family members say that Hawkins suffers from mental l problems and also abuses drugs and alcohol. According to family, she was also on anti-psychotic medication, as she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.
Bail was set for Hawkins at $250,000.
