ANCHORAGE, Alaska-Anchorage Police charged 49 year-old Brandie Thurow-McGrew with DUI and Assault on Wednesday, in connection to an incident where she crashed her SUV into a home on Lake Otis Parkway last fall.
Thurow-McGrew was driving her Dodge Durango south on Lake Otis at 9:15 am on October 11th of this year, as she approached Northern Lights, she struck a retaining wall on the west side of the street. The impact sent her vehicle across four lanes of traffic, over a curb, over a fence, across the lawn and into a house located at 2531 Lake Otis Parkway. The homeowner, 37 year old Margarett Lafever was inside the residence at the time of the accident. Lafever suffered a broken left ankle and a broken right foot ; the front of the home was destroyed. Thurow-McGrew suffered minor leg injuries.
Several hours after the incident, blood was drawn from Thurow-McGrew; recent results revealed Thurow-McGrew was legally drunk and was also under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the crash.
Thurow-McGrew was taken into custody late Wednesday afternoon and charged with DUI and Assault 1. She was booked into the Anchorage Jail with bail set at $4000 cash/corporate bond. She was arraigned while in custody yesterday afternoon at 2:30. A pre-indictment hearing is set for January 3rd at 2:00 pm.
