Alaska State Troopers responded to a snow machine/SUV accident involving injuries in the community of Aniak at 12:05 pm on Monday.
When they arrived at the scene at the intersection of Ikmiq Court and Airport Boulevard, their investigation revealed that while traveling at a high rate of speed, a 15-year-old, with one passenger, entered the intersection without yielding to on-coming traffic, and crashed into the side of a green 1993 Ford Explorer.
The snow machine was totaled in the incident.
The 15-year-old driver of the snow machine suffered serious injuries in the crash, while the driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries. The passenger on the snow machine, fled the scene after the accident without rendering aid.
The teen was medevaced to the Aniak Sub-regional Clinic, then further transported to Anchorage for treatment of their injuries. The driver was taken to the clinic for treatment as well and released.
Charges of Reckless Driving were referred to the Bethel District Attorney’s office.
Further investigation would result in contact with 31-year-old Clarence Cutter, the passenger on the snow machine. It was found that Cutter was in violation of his conditions of release on the original charge of Assault IV. Cutter was ordered to not consume alcohol as a condition of his release. The charge of Probation Violation was referred to the DA’s office in Bethel as well.
