On Friday, April 6th, at 10:52 am, Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak received a call from a timber company in Afognak reporting an assault.
It was reported to the State Troopers that the assault occurred the night before at about 9:30 pm.
The two suspects, Taylor Gisler, age 21, of Washington, and Joey Handsaker, age 34, of Oregon assaulted a third employee at the camp.
The timber camp reported to the Troopers, that the two suspects would be arriving by air back to Kodiak on a local air carrier later that day.
But, again later, the timber camp called the Troopers to inform them that the two suspects, Gisler and Handsaker, had stolen a skiff from the camp and had departed the area.
An officer with the Kodiak Harbormasters office observed the stolen skiff with the two men inside arrive at the Kodiak port and alerted authorities.
Officers from the Kodiak Police Department an Alaska State Troopers found and arrested the two individuals outside a business on Thorsheim Street at 5:43 pm. They were charged with Assault II and Vehicle Theft I.
The two men were remanded to the Kodiak Jail. Authorities say that the investigation is continuing, and additional charges are pending.
