USS “Anchorage” Will Be Commissioned In Anchorage

Alaska’s Congressional Delegation is pleased today to announce the Commissioning Ceremony for the USS Anchorage will be held in Anchorage next September or October. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus is personally delivering the good news to each member of the delegation via telephone calls today.

Renda And Healy Slowly Making Way to Nome at Five Knots through Thick Ice

According to the United States Coast Guard yesterday, the oil tanker "Renda," along with her escort, cutter "Healy," were 150 miles from the Northwestern city of Nome on Sunday. The vessels are slowed by thick ice, up to two feet thick and have been slowed to approximately five knots.
