Maryland woman, 26-year-old Sandra Clara McClary, was jailed on Sunday and her bail set at $500,000 after she left her 6-week-year-old daughter alongside a road in Anne Arundel County late on Saturday night.
A Pasadena, Maryland motorist picked the child up from the side of the highway just before midnight on Saturday. The child, discovered in a scuffed-up carrier, was taken to the Department of Child Protective Services after the motorist called police to report the find.
On Sunday morning, McClary called in to the police and claimed to be the baby’s mother. She told police that the child was to have been with her father and that she did not know the whereabouts of the man or her child.
But, investigations done by police determined that it was McClary that left the child along the highway and say that their evidence shows that a vehicle with tags matching McClary’s vehicle was seen leaving the scene around the time that the baby was abandoned.
The child, who was abandoned for about an hour before its discovery, is reported to be in good health and no worse for wear despite the abandonment.
McClary is scheduled to attend court this week for a series of robberies in the area. Police also charged McClary with additional charges of Child Neglect and Reckless Endangerment for this latest incident.
