U.S. Sen. Mark Begich July 1, 2013 called for greater oversight and better management of government dollars during a Senate subcommittee hearing today on the effectiveness of disaster grants distributed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Begich was joined at today's Senate Subcommittee on Emergency Management, Government Affairs and the Districted of Columbia by John Madden, director of the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, who participated in the hearing as a witness. Mr. Madden discussed how government can more effectively manage FEMA preparedness grants and measure the impact they have had on U.S. preparedness since the grant program was created in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
